On Friday evening, Mi7 Armed Response teams received a call from a petrol attendant, at a local service station in the Mkondeni area, who reported a suspicious male sitting on the premises.
Response Officers already patrolling the area were immediately dispatched. They found that the man had sustained severe burn injuries, which appeared to have been caused by electrical contact.
Prior to the call for assistance, the electricity supply in the area had been interrupted due to a substation fault. Further investigation revealed that the injured man was allegedly the suspect responsible for tampering with a nearby substation, which resulted in the power outage affecting the area.
Medical personnel and police were called in. The suspect was transported to hospital for medical treatment and will be detained thereafter.
