A police officer has been killed and a second left in a critical condition following a shooting incident on Flanders Drive in the Mount Edgecombe area a short while ago.
KZN VIP Emergency Medical Services, together with security partners, responded to the scene where they found a vehicle riddled with bullet holes and two injured members of the South African Police Service.
Immediate advanced life support intervention was initiated by KZNVIP medics for the critically injured officer, who was stabilised on scene before being airlifted under urgent medical care to a nearby hospital.
Tragically, the second officer showed no signs of life and was declared deceased on scene.
The exact circumstances leading up to the shooting cannot be confirmed at this time and remain subject to investigation.
Flanders Drive near Goldwagen remains closed as police conduct investigations. Motorists are urged to avoid the area.
All emergency services are currently in attendance.
