N3 Toll Route | Peak traffic conditions | 14:05 on 3 May 2026 — High traffic volumes

03 May 2026 | From Arrive Alive

High traffic volumes, particularly in a northbound direction (towards Gauteng), are currently being recorded on the N3 Toll Route between KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.

In the last hour, more than 1 800 vehicles per hour were reported heading in a northbound direction.

Peak conditions may lead to slow-moving traffic, congestion and delays, particularly through active construction zones on the N3 Toll Route, where traffic flow may be restricted to a single lane and speed reductions apply.

“Motorists are warned to be prepared for possible traffic backlogs and delays on the route, in construction areas, and at toll plazas. Law enforcement officers may also implement additional traffic management measures to control traffic flow and protect the safety of all road users,” says Thania Dhoogra, chief operating officer of N3TC, the company managing the 415 km N3 Toll Route between Cedara in KwaZulu-Natal and Heidelberg in Gauteng.

“Please adhere to warning signs and follow all instructions from law enforcement teams on the ground. Drive with patience and care, remain focused, increase your following distances, and avoid any distractions.

Peak traffic conditions place additional pressure on drivers, which may lead to fatigue and a loss of concentration. Under the current conditions, more frequent rest stops are advisable.”
