Ongoing, multi-disciplinary police operations; Operation Golden Gate carried out as part of Operation Shanela II, aimed at tightening security along border areas and main routes continue to yield positive results. Two suspects are expected to appear before separate magistrate courts following their arrests during a recent multi-disciplinery operation.
?In the first success on Thursday, 11 June 2026 at approximately 12:00, Provincial Anti Gang Unit deployed under the Simultaneous borderline operations were conducting a strategic roadblock on the R726 road near a local farm in the Zastron area.
?
The vigilant members intercepted a maroon Mercedes-Benz Sprinter carrying eight passengers. Upon requesting permission to search the vehicle, members discovered a firearm concealed inside the driver's overhead compartment. The 63-year-old driver claimed ownership of the weapon but could not produce a valid license, alleging that it was lost. He was promptly arrested for the unlawful possession of a firearm, and the weapon was confiscated for ballistic testing to determine if it was used in the commission of other crimes.
?In a separate but equally impactful breakthrough on Wednesday, 10 June 2026, the Parkweg Bike Squad team, also operating under the banner of Operation Golden Gate, acted swiftly on intelligence regarding illegal activities being conducted at an office block in Meqheleng, Ficksburg.
?Police members executed a surprise raid at the identified premises, catching a 49-year-old male suspect off-guard. A thorough search of the office exposed a sophisticated, illicit printing operation. The suspect was found to be illegally manufacturing fraudulent documents, which included:
?- Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA) certificates
?- South African Police Service (SAPS) clearance certificates
?- Motor vehicle roadworthy discs
?- Birth certificates
?- Immigration and border-crossing documents
?
The team dismantled the operation and confiscated an array of equipment used in the commission of the crime, including desktop computers, laptops, printers, cellular phones, and various forged documents that had already been printed.
?The 49-year-old suspect was arrested and faces charges under the Cybercrimes Act as well as charges for the possession of suspected stolen property.
?Both suspects remain in police custody and are expected to make their first court appearances soon. Investigation into both matters continues.
