A coordinated operation involving various SAPS units and private security companies resulted in the recovery of stolen vehicles and suspected stolen property worth more than R1 million following two armed business robberies in Jane Furse on Thursday, 18 June 2026.
The operation involved members from Nebo Station, Sekhukhune Highway Patrol, the Nebo–Jane Furse Tracking Team, Reflex Secure, Ntjebe-88, and Kraft Tracker.
At about 08:30, members of the Sekhukhune Highway Patrol identified a white Toyota bakkie suspected of being linked to burglary cases in the Sekhukhune District and displaying false registration plates. When police attempted to stop the vehicle on the R579 near Ga-Marishane, the occupants fled and later abandoned it before escaping on foot.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle was a rental bakkie fitted with false registration plates and had previously been linked to burglary incidents in the Mogorwane area.
While processing the scene, police received reports of two armed business robberies at retail stores in Jane Furse. Four armed suspects allegedly stole cellphones, electronic accessories, airtime vouchers, cash, and a laptop before fleeing in vehicles.
Descriptions of the suspect vehicles were circulated, and police later spotted two matching vehicles travelling on the R579. A high-speed chase ensued and ended near Ga-Phaahla, where the suspects abandoned a silver Volkswagen Polo and a white Fiat Kombi before allegedly opening fire on police and fleeing into nearby bushes.
Police recovered 618 cellphones, one laptop, six Amplify chargers, five mobile Wi-Fi devices, and two signal jammers from the vehicles. The estimated value of the recovered vehicles and goods is approximately R1 031 061.
Further investigations revealed that the Fiat Kombi had been reported stolen in a case registered at Letlhabile SAPS in the North West Province, while the Volkswagen Polo was displaying false registration plates and is linked to a vehicle rental company.
All recovered vehicles and property were seized for further investigation, and preliminary investigations have linked them to the business robberies committed earlier that day at two retail stores in the Jane Furse Plaza area, within the Jane Furse policing area.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, commended all members and stakeholders involved for their swift response, effective coordination, and commitment to combating serious crime.
Anyone with information that may assist in the arrest of the suspects is urged to contact the investigating officer, Sergeant Mogale Pilusa, on 082 772 9266, the nearest police station, #CrimeStop on 08600 10111, or use the #MySAPSApp.
