Operation Paseka concludes in Musina following the Easter long weekend

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba, yesterday, 06 April 2021, joined the Deputy Minister of Transport Me.Dikeledi Magadzi and the MEC of Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety Me.Mavhungu Lerule- Ramakhanya during the operation that was conducted in Musina policing precinct to mark the end of the Easter weekend.

The operation was conducted through road blocks and stop and searches.

The operation commenced with a parade led by Brigadier Dikeledi Mangena which comprised of the following departments and police units: SAPS Units from all levels of command such as the POOC, K9 Unit, Crime Intelligence, Corporate Communication and Liaison, Crime Prevention, Vehicle Investigation Unit, SAPS Limpopo Highway Patrol Team, the Provincial and Municipal Traffic officers, the Department of Home Affairs, LEDET, Y-COP and Community Police Forum (CPF). In her address to the parade, Brigadier Mangena encouraged all the participants to work smart but hard and diligently also to be cautious not to be exposed to COVID-19 virus.

The traffic was flowing normally along the N1 North, the road block was setup with the sole aim of checking any illegal items in transit, unroadworthy vehicles, drunken driving, wanted suspects. Vehicles, drivers and commuters were also searched and tested.

The road block was conducted, with top police management and politicians supporting the workforce to eradicate crime and the following successes were attained:

* 40 undocumented persons were arrested
* 81 summons were issued for the contravention of the Road Traffic Act
* 03 suspects were arrested for warrant of arrests.
* 02 motor vehicles were impounded

Several confiscations were done during the operation, as follows

* 201 cartoons of illicit cigarettes
* 01 × motor vehicle
* 01 × sachet of dagga

The motor vehicle that was seized follows after the driver sped off from the road block in an attempt to conceal the luggage of illicit cigarettes however, police gave chase resulting in the discovery of the abandoned car in the bushes. The suspect disappeared in the bushes. Police investigations are still underway.

The road block concluded with all operatives painting CBD blue with high law enforcement visibility through intensive patrols.
