A head-on collision outside of Tzaneen has left one man dead and two critically injured

A man has been killed and three others injured, two of them critically, when a light motor vehicle and truck collided head-on on the R71 outside of Tzaneen in Limpopo, this morning.

ER24 paramedics, along with another service, arrived on the scene to find both mangled vehicles in the middle of the road.

Upon closer inspection, paramedics discovered the lifeless body of a man lying trapped inside the light motor vehicle. Unfortunately, the man had already succumbed to his multiple injuries. Nothing more could be done for him and he was later declared dead.

Three other patients were found at the scene. The driver of the truck was found walking around on the scene with only minor injuries. A man and a woman, believed to be in their 40s, were found lying trapped inside the truck in a critical condition.

Fire services had to use the jaws-of-life equipment to free both patients.

Once freed, paramedics treated the patients and provided the two critically injured with advanced life support interventions. Once treated, the patients were transported to Van Velden Hospital for further treatment.

The exact cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
