Inspecting an airport runway

The SACAA conducts inspection activities that include measurements of runways and designs requirements of lights on the runway and taxiways to ensure that the airport infrastructure complies with the SA Civil Aviation Regulations Part 139 and the SA-CATS Part 139.

As a demonstration, a team led by Mr Nelson Nkabiti (Senior Manager: Aerodromes and Facilities) is embarking on a rigorous inspection of the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport this week.

This team of world-class experts includes Electrical Infrastructure, Civil Infrastructure, Obstacles, Apron operations, Quality Management and Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) personnel who are going through a rigorous audit of the airport as part of the five phases of Aerodrome Certification.
