Unleaded Petrol 95 compliant to Industry Standards

Cape Town – The Petroleum Oil and Gas Corporation of South Africa SOC Limited (PetroSA) a subsidiary of the Central Energy Fund SOC Limited (CEF) and Industry has been informed of the alleged discolouring of vehicles due to Unleaded Petrol 95 (ULP95) particularly in the Southern Cape region.

Having been informed with industry, PetroSA proactively undertook various tests on the ULP95 samples which have been certified as compliant according to industry standards.

PetroSA encourages industry to proactively undertake similar steps as part of reassurance to the public in terms of product quality and safety.

Considering that PetroSA’s product meets industry standards, this provides confidence that the product is safe and has the right quality to be used as intended for all customers.

PetroSA is mindful of a norm wherein the original specification of a product would be modified for various reasons such as improved performance, technology advancement etc which alters product significantly.

Additives will alter and impact negatively on the original quality of the product and we caution against such practice which may result in quality and safety defects.

The declining refining capacity in South Africa as a knock-on effect on other sectors of the economy, therefore, PetroSA has been tasked with the mandate of ensuring security of energy supply in the country.

PetroSA remains committed to ensuring security of supply of quality products and has enough stock to supply demand in the market. Therefore, PetroSA is of the view that any fuel shortage crisis raised in this context is a manufactured crisis by those who are causing it to leverage on the crisis lucratively. PetroSA notes the anti-competitive behaviour displayed by players in the industry who have repeatedly requested for the Intellectual Property (IP) of PetroSA associated with the ULP95 which has not been shared taking into account commercial sensitivities. PetroSA is aware of intensions to reverse engineer the product IP after declining numerous requests for the product IP and this is against the law.

PetroSA will undertake every opportunity to implement its supply strategy by sourcing product globally as part of ensuring security of energy supply. Any assertion that PetroSA has not undertaken to provide the product fittingly, is part of a greater effort to collapse PetroSA as a business.

As the national oil and gas corporation of South Africa, PetroSA endeavours to provide product of high quality, that adheres to safety standards and customer satisfaction.
