ER24 paramedics experiencing busy day attending to many crashes

04 May 2013 | From Arrive Alive

Our KZN crews have had an incredibly busy day today, dealing with multiple incidents and treating patients for various injuries.

Three collisions have taken place since this morning at the same place on the N3 just before Key Ridge on the north bound carriage way.
At around 8am, a truck overturned which left the two occupants with minor injuries and they were transported to hospital for further care. Shorty after that, two vehicles collided with one another in almost the same spot, but luckily after assessment by paramedics it was found that no one ha sustained any physical injuries in the collision.
This afternoon at the same location, paramedics responded to a fatal accident where a woman had been ejected from her Uno hatch after it rolled. Sadly she had already died on scene prior to their arrival and she was declared dead. The 41 year old was the only occupant of the vehicle at the time.
At around 15:00, a truck which was transporting road maintenance crews overturned on the N3 about 500 meters before the Market road exit. The truck left the north bound carriage way an rolled down the short embankment. Five occupants were sitting in the front cabin of the truck, and a man and woman were ejected from the vehicle as it rolled. Both people suffered fatal injuries and were declared dead. Two other patents suffered serious injuries and were transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital under Advanced Life Support care.
The fifth patient was being treated on scene for serious injuries when her condition suddenly started to deteriorate. Despite all efforts by paramedics to stabilise her condition, resuscitation efforts could not stabilise her and she too was declared dead on scene.
Earlier this afternoon, at around 15:00, a shooting incident took place in the area of Hammeradale. It appears that an unknown number of suspects approached the business and a shoot out between then and the guards ensued. Paramedics were called to treat one of the guards for gun shot wounds that he had sustained to his arm, and he was transported in a stable condition to a nearby hospital. Two of the business patrons were also transported to hospital for care of minor injuries that they had sustained in attempts to flee the scene.
Local police were in attendance at all above mentioned incidents and the necessary investigations will be conducted by them.
