Easter Weekend traffic reports

09 April 2009 | From Arrive Alive

9 April 2009

The accident on the N1 in Pretoria involving a cement truck and 20 vehicles is still causing road closures and major delays northbound. Officials hope to have the motorway cleared by 6pm.Suggested alternative routes to be used are the R21 and the R101.

Holiday makers travelling from Johannesburg to Kwazulu Natal will be glad to hear that all roadworks and construction has been lifted on the N3. De Hoek Plaza on the N3, just outside Heielberg, has however also reported an estimated 700 people per hour through it’s gates as early as 12 this afternoon.

Routes to Durban through Mpumalanga along the N2 drivers will be busy due to construction works on the Mpumalanga border and Pongola

If you are travelling to or from Cape Town, be aware of roadwork on the N1 between Paarl and the Huguenot tunnel, where traffic is expected to be heavy going in and out of Cape Town.

Over 5 million people are expected to be visiting the Zion City in Moria over the Easter weekend, so heavy traffic is expected in the Polokwane area. With the bulk of the traffic expected to occur this evening and on Monday afternoon in and out of Gauteng.

There are also roadworks on the N1 through Polokwane, commuters are advised to use the R71 bypass as an alternative.

Carriageways have been congested from two lanes into one in Somerset West in Cape Town on the N2, this is being caused by roadworks, and is expected to get serious on Monday coming up Sir. Lowrys Pass.

Construction in Mpumalanga on the N4 between Belfast and Wonderfontein, is also turning two lanes into one

The N12 going from the North West and Northern Cape provinces between Bloemhof and Kimberly is going to be busy as there are five to six stop and go controls slowing traffic
