One person has died and nine others sustained injuries following a collision between a truck and a bakkie on the old Philadelphia road this morning

The events leading up to the collision is unclear, but the truck had collided into the side of the bakkie causing both vehicles to leave the road and the bakkie to overturn. The bakkie was transporting workers on the load bed. All of the workers were ejected from the load bed as the bakkie overturned. The bakkie then landed on its roof before being pinned between a roadside tree and the truck

When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene they found that one of the workers which was ejected from the back of the bakkie had sustained various fatal injuries. The man was later declared dead at the scene.

One of the patients had sustained serious injuries and on scene paramedics promptly dispatched the AER24 helicopter to the scene. The patient then received treatment at the scene for injuries including a head and chest injury as well as suspected back and neck injuries and a broken leg. He was later airlifted to Tygerberg hospital for further treatment.

The remaining eight patients all sustained various injuries including multiple cuts and bruises as well as suspected back and neck injuries and broken bones. The patients received treatment at the scene before being transported to various medical facilities by ER24 as well as ambulances from the WCG: EMS.

The driver of the truck sustained no injuries in the collision. Local law enforcement officials attended the scene and will be investigating the cause of the collision further.
