Women’s Month roadblocks across the Western Cape
08 August 2018 | Department of Transport

Female traffic officers of the Department of Transport and Public Works (DTPW) led an integrated K78 roadblock on Bhunga Avenue, Langa this morning (8 August 2018). Other road safety agencies supporting the event included the City of Cape Town Traffic Services, Road Accident Fund (RAF), and the police.
Similar roadblocks have been planned across the Western Cape during August as a way of increasing the visibility of female officers on roads and reducing the risk of road injuries and fatalities. Female DTPW road safety officers also participate in these operations during the day. They interact with motorists and road users, provide road safety tips, and hand out pamphlets. On the day, three car seats donated by the RAF were handed out to parents and caregivers in need.
According to Nokuzola Letselebe, DTPW road safety coordinator, these all-women operations aim to promote road safety, and make road users more aware of the importance of road safety. “We are glad to partner with other road safety agencies when spreading road safety messages and encouraging motorists to follow the rules of the road,” she said.
