Head-on collision leaves one dead, another injured in Mandelaview

One man was killed and another injured following a head-on collision between a bakkie and light motor vehicle on the N8 in Mandelaview, Free State, yesterday afternoon.
ER24 paramedics, along with Provincial Fire and EMS, arrived on the scene at 13h40 to find the wrecked bakkie and light motor vehicle in the middle of the road. Both had sustained a significant amount of damage in the collision.
On closer inspection, paramedics found that a man lay trapped inside the bakkie. Unfortunately, the man had already succumbed to his numerous injuries. Nothing could be done for him and he was declared dead.
The driver of a light motor vehicle, a man, was found lying outside his vehicle. The man was assessed and found to have sustained only moderate injuries.
The man was treated for his injuries and was thereafter transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
