Heavy traffic on all routes

Johannesburg - Limpopo traffic authorities advised motorists on Monday against using the old R101 road south as it was heavily congested, SABC news reported.

The department's spokesperson, Phuti Mabelebele, said hundreds of motorists were using the route to avoid N1 toll fees.

Mabelebele said there was heavy traffic as holidaymakers and ZCC pilgrims made their way home.

Traffic volumes on the N3 from Durban to Gauteng had begun subsiding, the broadcaster said, with an estimated 1 500 cars an hour being recorded at certain points.

Earlier traffic peaked at about 3 000 cars an hour, as holidaymakers who had gone to the coast, made their way inland after the Easter weekend.

Meanwhile, a traffic speed camera has been found with six bullet holes in Kimberley.

Police are investigating a case of malicious damage to property.
