Bakwena N4 upgrades on track

11 April 2019 | From Arrive Alive

Continuous maintenance, rehabilitation and upgrades are necessary to ensure the N1N4 route meets the highest international standards for road paying motorists.
Bakwena Platinum Corridor Concessionaire (Bakwena) places great importance on their road users’ experience of the routes and therefore are sharing an update on the work they are currently engaged in as a means of keeping road users informed and prepared for any road works that will be taking place.
The upgrades along the Bakwena  route are progressing well. Bakwena’s commercial manager, Solomon Kganyago, says that during 2019 Bakwena is investing approximately R270 million on rehabilitation works and upgrading of road infrastructure.”
The addition of the west facing ramps of the R511 Interchange which were part of a R55 million project awarded in March 2018 have been completed and will be open to road users on the 18th April 2019. These new ramps will enhance the safety of road users travelling on the N4 and provide easy access to road users wanting to access the greater Brits area eliminating the use of existing congested routes.
Bakwena would like to inform road users of the temporary closure of the R512 bridge for a period of approximately ten months from approximately 9th May 2019 to March 2020 as part of the works related to the  addition of 32km of a second carriageway on the N4 between the M17 and R512 (Brits Interchange). The project costs R582 million with a 36-month construction period, that is scheduled to be completed in June 2021.
Alternative route signage will be displayed along the N4 route.  Suggested alternative routes include the P160 and R511.
The R250 million N4 Groot Marico project awarded in mid-2017 entailing the reconstruction of 25km of the N4 in Groot Marico between Vaalkop and the Swartruggens boundary estimated completion date is June 2019.
Bakwena would like to thank motorists for their patience while work is being carried out on the N1N4 routes and advises them to adhere to all designated road signs and exercise caution throughout the construction processes. “The upgrades will enhance motorists’ driving experience and improve their overall safety on the route,” concludes Kganyago.
