Emergency services capture and safely relocate some large crocs that had been washed down the Utongaati River

S.T.A.R.T is a non-profit organization and public benefits organization that relies on public support to provide a service to the community, be it in a disaster or the normal day-to-day calls for help.

09:16 A call was received through the control room requesting assistance for a female who was having breathing difficulties in the Chatsworth area. S.T.A.R.T Controllers spoke to the EMRS control room who confirmed that an ambulance had been dispatched to the location.

15:10 TrackBox is still receiving calls for missing flood victims. Yesterday we received a report for an individual who was washed off the N2. On investigation, S.T.A.R.T and NSRI

had already previously conducted a search for the missing person, and no one was found. Sadly, there is nothing more rescue teams can do. It is suggested that a missing person case is opened with SAPS.

20:00 TrackBox received reports that a motor vehicle collision had occurred on the N2 South near the Ifafa on and off-ramps. S.T.A.R.T controllers activated the S.T.A.R.T Medical team to investigate. On their arrival, the incident was confirmed and reported as 1 Patient with minor injuries, who refused hospital transportation.

A SPECIAL REQUEST

A special request was received on the afternoon of the 2nd of May 2022, where S.T.A.R.T partner, Specialised Ballito Unit was dispatched to Crocodile Creek. The team was activated to assist the team from Crocodile Creek with river access and manpower to help capture and safely relocate some large crocs that had been washed down the Utongaati River during the recent flood and were now residing in the river mouth and on the beach.

These predators occur naturally in all our local river systems; however, these ones now pose a danger to the local fishermen and beachgoers in the immediate area, with one recently finding its way to the beach in front of the Zimbali Coastal Estate.
