Alleged illegal gun lender arrested in Thokoza

On Wednesday 10 January 2024 at 09:00, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Community Liaison Unit (CLU) Officers, together with other stakeholders, arrested a suspect and multiple unlicensed firearms with live ammunition, were seized.
Following up on information received, about a male suspected of renting out illegal firearms, Officers proceeded to the Khuthuza Hostel where a 22-year-old male suspect, was found in one (1) of the hostel rooms with an AK-47 assault rifle, a shotgun, an Uzi machine gun and sixty-seven (67) different kinds of live rounds, before he was handcuffed. All the serial numbers of recovered firearms were tempered with.
The suspect facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, was taken to the Thokoza police station and he is expected, to appear at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court soon.
