Two dead, multiple injured in a collision between a transport vehicle taking cancer patients for chemotherapy and a truck on the N3

Mi7 National Group's Emergency Medical Services was dispatched after reports of a Motor Vehicle Accident on the N3 Southbound (towards Pietermaritzburg) between Cedara and Hilton.
Mi7 medics discovered carnage on the road, after a KZN EMRS Patient Transport Vehicle - carrying approximately 10 cancer patients bound for chemotherapy treatment at Greys Hospital - collided with a truck.
In a brave display of teamwork, multiple service providers collaborated on the scene to triage and treat the injured patients - some of whom had to be carefully extricated from the wreckage.
Eight people were left with injuries ranging from minor to serious, and were stabilized on the scene before being transported to hospital by various service providers for further care.
Unfortunately, two patients were declared deceased on the scene after attempts at resuscitation failed.
Currently, only one lane is open to traffic. We urge motorists to find alternative routes.
