National District Hospital in Mangaung evacuated after fire

Emergency services responded to reports of a fire at National District Hospital in Bloemfontein late Sunday afternoon.
On arrival it was found that a fire had started and engulfed one of the medical wards. Acting swiftly, hospital staff with the assistance of numerous private- and government ambulance staff and members of numerous neighbourhood associations evacuated approximately 80 patients to safety outside the hospital.
Members of the Mangaung Fire & Rescue Service extinguished the fire and were assisted by members of FIRE OPS SA with further damping down operations.
A medical triage area was set up and patients were transported by ambulances to various other hospitals in the Mangaung Metro area. No injuries were reported during the entire incident. The cause of the fire will be investigated by relevant authorities.

VR Medical responded to a serious vehicle collision involving a vehicle that had collided with a tree in Rose Avenue.
Sadly, upon arrival, one patient was declared deceased at the scene. Mangaung Fire and Rescue was called to assist with the safe extraction of the patient from the wreckage.
