Explosion reported at Nyala Substation in Pretoria East

The Volunteer Emergency Medical Response Unit received a call for an explosion in Pretoria East. After a quick search and information from the public, we determined that the explosion happened at Nyala Substation on Delmas Road in Pretoria East.
Being first on scene, our trained crew could set up a safety area and do a primary investigation of the burning transformer. We immediately made contact with City of Tshwane
Firefighters, informing them what resources are required. Minutes later, the first firefighters arrived on the scene, and we assisted in setting up an inline foam system to extinguish the fire with foam.
City of Tshwane electrical technicians were on scene, and the scene was handed over to them for investigation of the damage. Tshwane Metro Police was also on scene.
Volunteer Emergency Medical Response Unit (VEMRU) is a registered NPO and PBO that responds to medical and trauma emergencies for FREE.
