Media Tour of the Completed R37 National Road Project to Showcase Jobs, Economic Impact and Regional Growth

10 September 2024 | From Arrive Alive

The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) will host a media tour of the newly completed R37 national road between Modikwa Mine and Burgersfort in Limpopo, on Friday, 13 September 2024. The tour will be led by SANRAL Project Managers, along with representatives from the main contractor, Edwin Construction, and engineering professionals from Ilifa Africa Engineers.

The R37 national road was upgraded at a cost of R780 million, bringing essential jobs and economic opportunities to local communities and small businesses. The project created 423 jobs for residents, at a cost of R63 959 096.37. Additionally, 148 locals received training from accredited providers at a cost of R496 850. Furthermore, 30% (R234 million) of the total project value was allocated to 32 small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs), including those owned by youth, women, and people with disabilities.

The upgrade of the R37 national road was completed in March 2024. The road serves as a crucial freight corridor, connecting the mining belt in Limpopo to the port in Mozambique. It also links the N11 through Lebowakgomo and Polokwane, a key access route to Botswana.

This infrastructure improvement will not only enhance economic development along the corridor, but also attract investment to the region, ultimately fostering business growth.

SANRAL wishes to invite the media to attend the media tour. Transport and accommodation will be provided for the media from Thursday, 12 September, to Friday, 13 September 2024.
