Mpumalanga MECs for Community Safety, Security and Liaison and Public Works, Roads and Transport, Mr Jackie Macie and Mr Thulasizwe Thomo respectively visited Putco bus depot today (29 January 2025) following an incident where 51 Putco buses were burnt.

The MECs met with Putco representatives, SAPS management, and local leadership from Thembisile Hani Local Municipality.

So far, two male suspects have been arrested in connection with the torching.

MEC Macie has applauded the police for the swift arrest.

He said that he was happy with the breakthrough so far and said that he believed police will work around the clock to crack the case and put behind bars all those involved.

He said also that this incident is not just a sabotage to Putco, but to the economy of the province because there are a lot of people who are affected who rely on the bus company to ferry them to their work or businesses and to various destinations.

“We therefore call for calm from the people of Nkangala Region as the police continue with their investigation. We promise that we will not leave any stone unturned, we will make sure that the perpetrators face the full might of the law”, he said.
