Our Tactical Intervention Unit responded to the scene and on arrival found the South African Police Services in attendance.

A silver grey Volkswagen polo was found riddled with bullet holes. The driver, a male believed to be approximately thirty years of age was found to have sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead on arrival of paramedics, a second was found to have sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was in a critical condition.

Paramedics from ALS Paramedics, together with KZN EMS attended to the man, treating and stabilizing him on scene before he was taken under police guard to a nearby hospital for further care.

Reports from the scene are that the vehicle was brought to a stop by the SAPS and suspects then opened fire on the police who returned fire, killing one and wounding another.

Unconfirmed is that the suspects are linked to this mornings fatal Cash-in-transit heist on the N2.
