
Police in Port St Johns operationalised intelligence information following a robbery of a businessman (foreign national) near Gomolo locality, while in transit with his grocery stock yesterday morning, 18 August 2025. One suspect (a tavern owner) was nabbed for the robbery, and he was also linked to another serious and violent criminal activity.
It is alleged that on Monday morning, 18 August 2025 around 10:30, two armed suspects traveling in a navy bakkie robbed a businessman near Gomolo locality in Port St John's. The suspects managed to steal grocery stock before fleeing in their getaway vehicle.
Four hours later (14:30), a team comprising of members from local detectives, crime intelligence and visible policing operationalised intelligence information, and spotted the suspicious vehicle (bakkie) traveling in the CBD.
The bakkie with grocery stock was stopped, and the passenger immediately, jumped out and fled on foot.
The driver was found in possession of a licenced firearm, and two unlicensed firearms (a revolver and a homemade shotgun) stashed in different compartments of the bakkie. A 40-year-old man was nabbed for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, and robbery with aggravating circumstances.
A preliminary investigation was conducted, and police seized two unlicensed firearms from the suspect’s house. #TrioCrimes
