The Durban Metro Police Service Bicycle Unit and Tracing Unit recorded a significant operational success following intelligence-driven actions targeting a motor vehicle theft and carjacking syndicate operating around the Durban CBD and beachfront areas.
Acting on information received, officers intercepted a suspicious vehicle after the driver attempted to evade police by fleeing and disregarding traffic laws. The vehicle was successfully stopped, leading to the arrest of multiple suspects.
During the operation, officers recovered:
- Suspected break-in implements
- Live ammunition
- Additional exhibits linked to vehicle theft syndicate activities
Further intelligence led to follow-up operations across multiple areas, resulting in additional arrests for obstructing police investigations and defeating the ends of justice. Suspects are also linked to recent vehicle theft cases reported in Durban.
CHARGES INCLUDE:
- Possession of break-in implements
- Possession of property suspected to be stolen
- Illegal possession of ammunition
- Defeating the ends of justice
- Disregarding police instructions
- Obstructing officers in the execution of their duties
All suspects were lawfully arrested, informed of their constitutional rights, and detained at SAPS stations. Investigations are ongoing and more arrests are expected.
