An attempted hijacking resulted in a motor vehicle accident on Saturn Road in Riet River – KZN at approximately 04:55 this morning (Sunday).

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of an attempted hijacking. Reaction Officers arrived and interviewed the victims.

According to the mother of the driver, her daughter and son-in-law were travelling home in a Kia Picanto when they noticed a white VW Polo following them for an extended period.

As they attempted to enter their property, the VW Polo allegedly attempted to force their vehicle to a stop. The driver lost control, resulting in the vehicle colliding into a tree. The impact caused significant damage to the front of the vehicle and the airbags were deployed.

The suspects fled the scene immediately after the crash. The number of occupants in the VW Polo could not be confirmed and the registration remains unknown. The female driver sustained internal injuries and was left traumatised following the incident.

Paramedics from a private ambulance service assessed her on scene.
