Police responded to multiple incidents on Saturday, 25 April 2026, leading to the arrest of a suspect and the recovery of suspected stolen property.

At approximately 22:00, police received information about a male who was allegedly pointing and discharging a firearm in the Lihawu area, near a Restaurant. Upon arrival, officers established that the suspect had moved to a nearby residence.

Acting on further information, police proceeded to the identified location, where the suspect was found in the company of other individuals seated around a fire. Members approached the group and successfully apprehended the suspect. A search conducted on the suspect, led to the discovery of a black pistol concealed in his front waist. The suspect was immediately arrested, for possession of a firearm without a licence and detained for further investigation.

In a separate incident, police received information regarding suspects allegedly stripping a vehicle in Mphakeni. Upon arrival at the identified RDP house, members observed a large fire on the premises. The four male suspects who were present fled the scene upon noticing the police, with one reportedly in possession of a rifle. Despite a foot chase, the suspects managed to evade arrest by fleeing into nearby bushes.

Police returned to the scene and discovered various vehicle parts. Preliminary investigations revealed that the parts are believed to be from a vehicle reported stolen at a local Clinic earlier in April 2026. It is alleged that the complainant had parked the vehicle while seeking medical attention and later discovered it had been stolen.

Investigations into both incidents are ongoing. The suspect aged 45, is expected to appear at the Kanyamazane Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, 28 April 2026, facing charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm.
