The Gauteng Traffic Police and Gauteng Traffic Wardens Infrastructure Unit (EC) conducted compliance inspections at several vehicle dealerships and automotive businesses across Ekurhuleni, leading to the discovery of suspected stolen vehicles, tampered vehicle identifiers and other criminal violations.

-During an inspection at a vehicle dealership in Gosforth Park, officers screened multiple vehicles through the NaTIS system and identified a blue Ford Focus ST displaying signs of VIN tampering on all tags affixed to the vehicle body. Further verification was conducted which revealed a different VIN number. Checks confirmed the vehicle was linked to a robbery case registered in Ennerdale.

During the same inspection, another vehicle was flagged for suspected mileage manipulation.

-At an auto body shop visited during the operation, officers inspected a Renault Triber and discovered two different VIN numbers on the vehicle. After verification through the control room, one of the VIN numbers was confirmed to be linked to an active robbery case opened in Meadowlands.

-At Rosto Auto, located in Boksburg, officers inspected several vehicles and components. During the inspection, a Ford Ranger engine was identified and verified through the control room as belonging to a Ford Ranger LDV reported stolen, with an active case registered at Cleveland SAPS.

As a result of the operation, three male suspects working at the panel beater were apprehended for further investigation.
