A truck driver is recovering in hospital after being stabbed and robbed while sleeping next to the N12 outside Britstown in the Northern Cape during the early hours of Sunday morning.
According to reports, the driver had stopped to rest when a group of suspects allegedly targeted him while he was asleep in his truck.
The suspects reportedly overpowered the driver, stabbed him with a sharp object, stole 10 truck wheels, and siphoned diesel from the vehicle before fleeing the scene.
Despite sustaining serious injuries, the driver managed to obtain a cellphone from another truck driver and contacted his employer, who immediately alerted police.
Emergency services responded and transported the injured driver to hospital for medical treatment.
Following the robbery, Kimberley police launched an intensive search operation. Their investigation led officers to a blue Mazda Drifter bakkie and a Fuso truck believed to be linked to the crime.
During a search of the Fuso truck, police allegedly recovered the stolen truck wheels and diesel. The wheels were later positively identified as those taken from the truck near Britstown.
Six suspects were arrested in connection with the robbery and theft, while both vehicles were seized as part of the ongoing investigation.
