A newborn baby boy is safe and recovering in hospital after being found abandoned on the side of the road in Pietermaritzburg today.
At approximately 12:00 PM this morning, KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service was dispatched to Bombay Road, directly opposite Northbury Secondary School, following urgent reports from the community. Local residents walking along the roadway alerted authorities after hearing the distinct cries of an infant coming from the grass near the roadside.
Upon arrival, the medical team immediately assumed care of the infant. Advanced Paramedics conducted a thorough clinical evaluation while simultaneously taking measures to warm the baby boy and shield him from exposure. Following a comprehensive on-scene assessment, the infant was in a stable condition. He was safely transported to a nearby medical facility for further pediatric evaluation and continued care.
The swift action of the local residents was critical; their immediate call to emergency lines prevented the newborn from enduring prolonged exposure to the elements. Local authorities were present on the scene, and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the abandonment is underway.
