An e-hailing driver has been shot and left in a critical condition following an armed robbery on Fernham Drive, near the Bhambayi area.
It is believed that the driver had been requested to collect passengers near Alverstone when he was confronted by four male suspects. During the robbery, the driver was shot before the suspects fled on foot towards Bhambayi.
The same suspects are believed to have possibly been involved in an earlier armed robbery involving an Uber Eats delivery rider in the area; however, this has not yet been officially confirmed.
KZN VIP Security, SAPS and KZN VIP Medical and Rescue responded to the scene. The critically injured driver was stabilised by medical personnel ahead of urgent transportation to a medical facility for further treatment.
All relevant emergency services remain in attendance, and the circumstances surrounding the incident will be investigated by SAPS.
