A male and a female suspect have been arrested by Anti-Hijacking Unit members following a car chase that led to the discovery of a hijacked vehicle, two cellular telephones and an imitation firearm.
The members spotted a charcoal Hyundai with a flagged registration in Lawulo Road, Khayelitsha, and gave chase. The suspect tried speeding until the members ultimately caught him at Nothobile Street, Khayelitsha. A 24-year-old male suspect came out of the vehicle and pointed an imitation firearm towards the police, and they retaliated, resulting in him sustaining bullet wounds to his upper body. He was admitted to the nearest hospital for medical care and is under police guard. Furthermore, a female passenger, aged 23, was apprehended. They were both arrested for possession of a hijacked vehicle, possession of stolen property, pointing of a firearm, including reckless and negligent driving.
Both suspects were detained at Lingelethu West SAPS and will appear at Khayelitsha Magistrates’ Court once they have been charged.
