Bela-Bela - MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Ms. Nakedi Kekana, has officially launched the Limpopo October Transport Month at SUNFA Stadium in Bela-Bela today.

Addressing stakeholders, traditional leaders, transport operators, business and government officials, MEC Kekana said the provincial launch builds on the national programme launched by the Minister of Transport last week, bringing the conversation directly to the people of Limpopo.

MEC Kekana said this year's focus is on improving reliability, safety, sustainability and affordability in the transport system.

"Our people want to know that when they leave home in the morning, the bus or taxi they depend on will be available and will get them to their destination on time," she said.

The MEC highlighted key provincial interventions, including the rollout of a Bus Intelligence System to improve monitoring of bus operations, subsidized bus services to make transport affordable, and the distribution of bicycles to needy learners.

She also confirmed that Limpopo is working with Gauteng to advance the proposed High-Speed Rail connection between the two provinces to strengthen economic integration and shift appropriate freight from road to rail.

MEC Kekana emphasized that transport must be understood as a catalyst for economic growth, connecting workers to jobs, learners to schools and businesses to markets.
"Our task is not merely to celebrate transport, but to reimagine it," she said
