The MEC for Roads and Public Works, Rre Bentley Vass, conducted an extensive infrastructure oversight visit across several villages within the Joe Morolong Local Municipality in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District.
The MEC travelled through Logaganeng, Mathanthanyaneng, Maketlele, Letsesaneng, Zero and Lejelapotsane, assessing the condition of roads damaged by the recent floods, as well as a number of unused government buildings, including former school facilities.
Departmental internal road maintenance teams are already on the ground in parts of the area, conducting spot gravelling and other maintenance interventions aimed at restoring accessibility and improving road conditions for affected communities.
The oversight visit also focused on identifying opportunities for the productive use of unused government properties.
In line with the Department’s Immovable Assets Disposal policy and applicable administrative processes, MEC Vass has expressed his intention to explore the donation of qualifying unused buildings to Traditional Leadership structures, so that these assets can continue serving communities rather than remaining unused.
