Two suspects were arrested with suspected drugs worth approximately R200 000.00 seized by members of Potchefstroom Public Order Policing (POP) during crime prevention patrols on Wednesday night, 07 October 2026.
POP members received information about a white Toyota Corolla allegedly being used to transport drugs. The information was followed up and with the assistance of neighbourhood watch members the vehicle was spotted along Nelson Mandela Drive, near the N12 and Mooirivier Mall.
When members attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver allegedly failed to stop, resulting in a short pursuit. The vehicle was eventually stopped and two occupants were arrested.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of approximately 1 000 tablets suspected to be Mandrax, approximately 100 grams of a crystal type substance, suspected to be an illicit drug, as well as cash believed to be proceeds of drug dealing.
The two suspects, aged 29 and 34, were arrested and charged with dealing in drugs in terms of the Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act, 1992 (Act No. 140 of 1992). North West Provincial Organised Crime is investigating the case.
The Suspects are expected to appear in the Potchefstroom Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 2026 October 09.
The Provincial Commissioner of the North West, Lieutenant General Arthur Peter Adams, commended the members for their vigilance.
He said: “Drug dealers have no place in our communities. We will continue disrupting the illicit drug trade and urge the public to provide information that can assist us."
