Collaborative efforts between the police and the E2 (Eyes & Ears) private agricultural sector have dealt a massive blow to the copper cable organised criminal network. The coordinated actions led to the arrest of six foreign nationals who were found in possession of 560.85 kilograms of suspected stolen copper cable in Allanridge.
On Monday, 12 October 2026, at approximately 21:00, Allanridge police received information about two vehicles travelling from Bothaville towards Welkom. Furthermore, information indicated that the alleged suspects were in possession of suspected stolen copper cable.
Information was operationalised between Allanridge police and the Allanridge and Odendaalsrus agricultural sectors. The two vehicles matching the provided description were spotted on the R30 road between Allanridge and Grootkop substation. They were then intercepted, and upon searching the vehicles, police discovered copper cables. The six males, aged between 26 and 48, were subsequently arrested for possession of suspected stolen property.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the copper cable belonging to Transnet was allegedly stolen in the North West province and was in transit to Welkom. The alleged suspects were then identified through assistance from the E2 (Eyes & Ears) Viljoenskroon, Vierfontein and Bothaville agricultural sectors.
Allanridge police seized the copper cable, estimated to be valued at approximately R100 000 at street value. The two vehicles, a silver Volkswagen Golf 5 and a white Ford pickup, allegedly used during the commission of the crime, were also confiscated and booked in as evidence.
The arrested suspects are expected to appear before the Odendaalsrus Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 14 October 2026, on charges of possession of suspected stolen property.
