The Members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) Provincial Tracking Team, working with external law-enforcement and security partners, have recovered a stolen Toyota Prado VX valued at approximately R900 000 at Capricorn Toll Plaza, under the Bandelierkop policing area, in the early hours of Tuesday, 20 October 2026.
The recovery follows information received by the Police regarding a vehicle allegedly travelling from Gauteng towards Beitbridge, with the intention of smuggling it out of the country. The operational team was immediately activated and followed up on the information, leading to the vehicle being spotted and stopped at Capricorn Toll Plaza.
A subsequent verification process revealed that the Toyota Prado VX had been reported stolen in the Berea policing area in KwaZulu-Natal.
A 40-year-old male was arrested immediately for possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle. The successful operation was conducted by the #SAPS Provincial Tracking Team in collaboration with Limpopo Tactical, Tshimollo Security and Investigations, and Shadow Secure.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers, commends the operational team and its partners for their swift response and collaboration in recovering the stolen vehicle before it could allegedly be smuggled across the border. He reiterates that police will continue to intensify operations aimed at combating vehicle theft, #CrossBorder smuggling and other forms of organised crime.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Makhado Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, facing a charge of possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
The Police investigations are ongoing.
