Desperate screams for help shattered the early morning silence as a devastating house fire claimed the lives of a two-year-old child and an adult male in Phoenix on Tuesday. Three other occupants were left critically injured.

KZN VIP was alerted by residents after cries for help were heard coming from a home within a complex. With people trapped inside, neighbours and community members rushed to assist, desperately trying to break down the doors to reach them.

KZN VIP immediately requested the Fire Department and dispatched emergency medical teams. The home was engulfed in flames as rescuers raced to help those inside.

In a desperate effort to save lives, community members managed to force open a door and pull the occupants from the burning home.

Tragically, despite those efforts, the two-year-old child and adult male showed no signs of life. Both were declared deceased at the scene by KZN VIP paramedics.

Three other patients were found in critical condition. They were stabilised before being transported under advanced life support care by KZNVIP to appropriate medical facilities for urgent treatment.

The Fire Department responded swiftly and extinguished the blaze before it could spread to neighbouring properties. SAPS, Metro Police and other emergency services were also in attendance.

The cause of the fire and the circumstances leading up to this tragedy remain unconfirmed.

A family now faces an unimaginable loss, while three others continue to receive critical medical care. Our hearts go out to everyone affected, especially those mourning a young life lost far too soon.

KZN VIP extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved family. We also acknowledge the neighbours and community members who answered those cries for help and did everything they could to bring the occupants to safety.
