Fuel prices decreased by as little as 1c per litre

The latest fuel price adjustments show that the price of both grades of petrol will decrease by 1 cent per litre, while the price of diesel is expected to decrease by between R1,09 and R1,13 per litre, depending on the grade.

The fuel price adjustments published by the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources show that the price of illuminating paraffin is expected to increase by R3,66 per litre, while the price of LP Gas is expected to increase by R1,83 per kilogram and R2,08 per kilogram in the Western Cape.

The department’s Robert Maake says, “The reason for these adjustments is the higher Brent crude oil prices during the period under review and the higher prices of petroleum products in the international market in line with the higher fuel prices. The rand weakened against the US dollar in the same period; the slate levy increased by 48.18 c/l from 87,66 c/l to 135.84 c/l in the price structures of both petrol and diesel.”

“The Minister of Finance announced the short-term relief measures during the Medium Term Budget Policy Statement (MTBPS). The general fuel levy on diesel is reduced by R3 c/l and on petrol by R1.50 c/l effective from 4 November 2026.”
