The Police members in Mahwelereng, under Waterberg District, have been commended for their swift and effective response that led to the arrest of three suspects shortly after two business robberies were committed on the morning of Wednesday, 23 April 2025. The operation also resulted in the recovery of stolen property and imitation firearms used during the crimes.
Between 10:30 and 11:30, the suspects allegedly targeted a shop in Ga-Rauwele village, followed soon after by a second robbery at a supermarket in Sekuruwe village. The three male suspects entered the premises posing as customers before producing what appeared to be firearms and robbing the stores of cellphones, cigarettes, groceries, and an undisclosed amount of cash.
Thanks to swift action and information received, the Mahwelereng Visible Policing Unit quickly traced the white Chevrolet sedan used by the suspects. When pursued along the N11 road, the suspects attempted to flee but crashed into another vehicle during the chase.
All three suspects were arrested at the scene. Upon searching the vehicle, police recovered two pellet guns believed to have been used in the robberies, as well as stolen goods from both crime scenes. Due to injuries sustained in the collision, the suspects are currently receiving medical treatment under police guard.
Further investigations revealed that the vehicle used bore false Gauteng number plates. The car has since been seized for further forensic investigation.
The suspects will soon appear before the Mahwelereng Magistrate’s Court on charges including business robbery, possession of suspected stolen property, and use of a vehicle with false registration plates. Police are also investigating possible connections to other recent crimes in the province.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Major General Samuel Manala, commended the officers for their dedication.
“This is a commendable demonstration of effective police visibility and rapid reaction to violent crime. We will continue to act decisively against criminals who disrupt the safety and livelihoods of our communities. The recovery of stolen property and the weapons used is a clear message that such lawlessness will not be tolerated in Limpopo.” concluded Major General Manala
Investigations are continuing.
